Free Drawing Lessons at Drawspace.com (3 years later…)
Over 3 years ago I published my first review of this amazing website. Recently I revisited it to see how it was doing. Im pleased to announce the following signs of well-earned success & growth:
- From a group of subscribers numbering about 90,000, theyve now become an international community of over 320,000 drawing enthusiasts, professional artists, art educators, and authors of art books.
- Theyve added over 100 more free lessons so that the collection now totals more than 250!
Except for these updates in statistics, the review below is still mostly accurate. I stand by it and hereby republish it for all you aspiring artists. And I encourage you to visit and join this online drawing community. Enjoy!
At Drawspace.com you will find more than 150 lessons that will take you from the very beginning drawing skills to the advanced methods of the masters. The site includes a Gallery and Forums . Registration is required, but free. The site is created and maintained by Brenda Hoddinott, a self-educated portraitist, visual artist, forensic artist, illustrator, art educator and author. If you are interested in learning anything related to drawing, you must visit this site!

This site claims an amazing 89,635 registered members! [Update: Now over 320,000!] And for good reason! It is filled with info and clear, step-by-step instructions and easy-to-follow examples of how to see clearly and how to draw anything. More than 150 lessons [now over 250!] are divided among these 26 categories: Beginner A: Resources B: Learn to see C: Draw with lines D: Squirkling E: Perspective 1 F: Hatching G: Shading forms H: Focus on people I: Cartoons & critters Intermediate J: Skills & secrets K: Perspective 2 L: Crosshatching M: Animals & fantasy N: 3-D cartoons O: Caricatures P: People Q: Places & things R: Color basics S: Cartoons in color Advanced T: Diverse animals U: Faces & figures V: Nature & still life W: Studio series X: Fantasy & fun Y: Creating in color Z: Drawing on the Masters
Note the following caveat from the website: “All members can view any drawing lessons online for free. If you would like to download or print-off drawing lessons for personal use or as instructional aids, please consider upgrading your account.” In other words, pay $25 for a 3 month subscription and you can download Adobe *.pdf files. However, there is so much available for free… … that we highly recommend this website as a truly great free training resource! URL:
