Palos Verdes school board to consider election to extend parcel taxes

The Palos Verdes Peninsula school board tonight will consider calling for an election to ask the public to extend parcel taxes that are set to expire in 2013.

The tax measure would be placed on the Nov. 8 ballot, potentially alongside two school board seats.

It would cost homeowners $374 annually – the same as what is levied now under taxes previously approved by voters.

Senior citizens could apply for an exemption.

The tax would fund technology, teacher and employee salaries, facility maintenance, instructional materials and educational programs. District officials have said the revenue is essential for continued school operations.

The 6:30 p.m. meeting is at Malaga Cove Administration Center, 375 Via Almar, Palos Verdes Estates.
