Why I Like Math

People wonder why I like math. They might imagine that I’m simply an antisocial geek who likes to solve equations and play with my cool calculator. All of that is completely beside the point. Henri Poincare understood why I like math so much:

“The mathematician does not study pure mathematics because it is useful, he studies it because he delights in it, and he delights in it because it is beautiful.” – Henri Poincare

The Let’s Play Math blog has the post Why Study Mathematics? that includes this and several other quotes from such diverse people as Abraham Lincoln, Galileo Galilei, and Alfred North Whitehead. If you would like to see some good answers to the age old question that every math student asks, check it out.

Check out Let’s Play Math! It is a great resource for anyone looking for fun math stuff. Lots of challenges and games and other ideas for learning math.
